Welcome to Giving Together: the Cape Coral giving circle movement

July 21, 2017
By MICHAEL CHATMAN - Cape Coral Community Foundation , Cape Coral Daily Breeze

We're thrilled to welcome you to Giving Together, a new initiative of the Cape Coral Community Foundation which has formed in response to the growing giving circles movement. Inspired by the grassroots principle of "neighbors taking care of neighbors," groups of people are coming together to give together. Officially launched on July 1, Giving Together is an exciting milestone in Cape Coral's journey to create a more generous community, powered by the Cape Coral Community Foundation.

Giving circles allow individuals to join together, regardless of how much money each can give or what sort of organizations each wants to support. We then connect the giving circles to great organizations in need of support.

From the beginning, we knew we wanted to create something that would help real, impassioned, generous, interested, curious and busy people create extraordinary experiences that could have real impact. With incredible guidance from our board of directors, we embarked on a strategy process. We asked Cape Coral residents for their input. What excites you the most about giving circles? What type of affinity groups interest you?

Whether you're new to giving circles or a seasoned veteran, whether you're a nonprofit seeking funding or considering starting your own giving circle, or if you're simply a person hoping to make a difference alongside friends, we know you'll find valuable resources at the Cape Coral Community Foundation to help you on your journey.

We provide:

n A community of generous givers who allocate grants to deserving nonprofit organizations

n A dynamic marketplace of live grant opportunities and common grant applications

n A growing resource library with both brief and in-depth introductions to the giving circle experience, case studies showcasing different giving circle models, info on grantmaking best practices, sample recruitment and grantmaking documents and guides to fund giving circle workshops and critical group conversations

n Tools to help you run your own giving circle, from scheduling meetings to reviewing and voting on grant applications.

Most of all, we hope the giving circle experience helps you build a community of friends, family and colleagues engaging together in the rich, rewarding and fun practice of improving the Cape Coral community through applied generosity.

Please join us at our upcoming gathering, Giving Together. This two-hour workshop will deeply connect you to others, teach you how to be a philanthropist and invite you to exchange inspiring stories.

Location: Grace United Methodist Church, 13 S.E. 21st Place.

Date & Time: July 26, from 9-11 a.m.

Registration: $35
