Hometown Fourth: Red White & Boom

June 30, 2017
Cape Coral Daily Breeze

Cape Coral's annual Independence Day bash, Red, White & Boom, is ready to light up the sky Tuesday.

This year's street party organized by the city of Cape Coral Parks and Recreation Department and sponsored by Storm Smart will again feature continuing live entertainment, numerous food and drink vendors, a kids area and, as always, the biggest and best fireworks display in Southwest Florida.

Admission is still free at the celebration that attracts an estimated 40,000 people every year with an added paid options for children.

The Kid's Patriot Park, which will include rides, lots of inflatables, a 300-foot zip line for kids and adults alike, face painting and more, will offer ride tickets for its attractions.

BOOM! will run from 5 to 10 p.m. along Cape Coral Parkway from Del Prado Boulevard to the Cape Coral Bridge, which will be closed from 3 a.m., July 4, to 3 a.m., July 5, for the July 4th event.

This year's Storm Smart American Fireworks Spectacular - to feature more than 5,000 shells and a 20-minute music synchronized show - is scheduled to start around 9:30 p.m., weather permitting.

For those looking to get a crack-of-dawn start on the holiday fun, there is an "early bird" event to help kick off the holiday.

For hard-core enthusiasts, the festivities will begin with the Freedom 5K & Kid's Fun Run across the Cape Coral Bridge, coordinated by the Chamber of Commerce of Cape Coral.

Race registration will start at 6 a.m. and the race will start at 7:30 a.m. at the foot of the bridge. Visit to pre-register on line.

Other options include Fourth of July events in downtown Fort Myers, on Fort Myers Beach and Sanibel, and Bonita Springs.

There are lots of options out there this year.

Have a very happy and safe hometown Fourth!
