** Cape Coral Friends of Wildlife

Don Doggett will be the guest speaker at the Cape Coral Friends of Wildlife meeting to be held at 7 p.m. Oct. 11, Rotary Park Environmental Center, 5505 Rose Garden Road, Cape Coral.

Mr. Doggett will speak on behalf of "Yes on Conservation 20/20," a coalition created by environmental organizations in SW Florida. Its goal is to inform the public about the importance of voting Yes on the referendum on Nov. 8, regarding Conservation 20/20. It is the opportunity for citizens to help safeguard Lee County's long-term economic and environmental sustainability and quality of life through continuing to protect the County's exceptional natural resources. Doggett moved to Florida in 1977. He retired in 2013 after thirty six years of employment with Lee County Hyacinth/Mosquito Control District.

** Garden Club of Cape Coral

The Garden Club of Cape Coral next monthly meeting will be held Oct. 12 at the Cape Coral Art League, 516 Cultural Park Boulevard. There is on-site parking. The Garden Club of Cape Coral meets the second Wednesday of the month (excluding June, July and August). ** MOAA

The next monthly meeting of the Calusa Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America will be held Saturday, Oct. 8. The 9 a.m. meeting will be held at Gulf Coast Village, 1333 Santa Barbara, Tom Wagner will speak about is experiences in Viet Nam.

All current, former, and retired military officers and spouses are invited to attend. The cost for the buffet breakfast is $10, payable at the door. Reservations are requested and may be made by contacting Dixie Buick, 945-5030, or calusamoaa@yahoo.com.

MOAA is a national organization of military officers that supports the interests of military members of all ranks--past, present and future. Regular membership is open to all current and former officers, and associate membership is available to all who support our armed forces. ** Lee County Marines

The Lee County Marines to celebrate its 241st Birthday on Saturday, Nov. 5, at the Elks Lodge in Cape Coral.

The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a Marine Corps Ceremony, Buffet Dinner and Dancing.

** S. Lee County Democrats

S. Lee County Democrats meet the second Wednesday each month, 6:30 p.m., in the meeting hall at Hope United Presbyterian Church, 7470 Hickory Dr, Fort Myers. Speakers are always scheduled to talk about the issues and candidates that want to hear from you on local, state, and national interests. The church hall is easily located just off U.S. 41 (S. Tamiami Trail) between Sanibel Blvd. and Estero Pkwy, it is open to the public and there is no charge. This month, there will be a fun Political Mixer, and we look forward to meeting you!
