MIAMI (AP) — Though serious crime rates have dropped to historic lows across the state, one of Miami's notorious housing projects is seeing a staggering amount of violence.
Police records show 43 people were shot in a 13-square-block area around Liberty Square in the first seven months of 2014. That's up from 11 shootings in the same period in 2013.
Seven of the shootings so far this year have been fatal.
The Miami Herald reports (http://hrld.us/1ttK9sC ) city commissioners are pushing a bill that would put more officers on the street to combat some of the violence.
