July 21, 2016
By TIFFANY REPECKI (trepecki@breezenewspapers.com) , Cape Coral Daily Breeze

An upcoming concert will benefit Abuse Counseling and Treatment and its Cape Coral services.

For the first time, Rock Out Against Domestic Violence will take place on Friday from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Cape Coral Yacht Club. Hosted by ACT, the fundraiser will feature the local band Razing Cape, covering classic rock songs from Led Zeppelin, 38 Special, Billy Joel, Guns N' Roses, KISS and more.

"Your favorite '80s classic rock songs," Raquel Torres, ACT's development director, said.

She explained that the band's drummer is the director for the William "Bill" Austen Youth Center. Torres added that the group wanted to help raise awareness and funding for ACT in the Cape.

"One hundred percent of the proceeds will go toward benefiting the services we provide in Cape Coral, specifically," Torres said.

The Cape safe shelter has 22 beds and has been in operation since 1998. Last year, ACT helped approximately 1,200 clients in the Cape and 157 of the agency's clients stayed at the local shelter.

She noted that ACT has three shelters in total, including Fort Myers and LaBelle.

"We would definitely like to raise $2,000 in net proceeds," Torres said of the fundraiser.

"That would require us to sell out for the event," she added.

Advance tickets are $7, or tickets are $10 at the door.

"There are a limited number of tickets available," Torres said.

As of Thursday, just under 100 tickets had been reserved.

On Friday, the music will kick off at 7:30 p.m.

There will be a costume contest and people can dress up to win.

"If they show up in a costume of their favorite rock band member, we'll do a special judging and make sure that the winner gets a special prize," she said.

Organizers will also hand out more than $500 in raffle prizes.

"Things like gift certificates for family passes to Sun Splash (Family Waterpark), jewelry from Stella and Dot, a 22-inch TV, family membership to the (Lee County) Alliance for the Arts," Torres said.

There are also discounts to Blue Moon Pizza, the Coral Oaks Golf Course and more.

A 50/50 raffle is also planned; tickets can be purchased on site.

"We will have food available," she said.

Pizza will be on hand, along with pressure fried chicken, sauteed corn and brownie bites being provided free-of-charge by Water City Grill; water and soda will be available for $1 each.

The concert is BYOB.

Torres explained that people can bring in non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages.

"Those attendees need to be very responsible," she said.

"We will have law enforcement on site," Torres added. "Drink responsibly."
