Enjoy a hometown 4th at Red White & BOOM!

July 1, 2016
Cape Coral Daily Breeze

Cape Coral's annual Independence Day bash, Red, White & BOOM!, is ready to light up the sky this holiday weekend.

This year's street party organized by the city of Cape Coral Parks and Recreation Department will again feature continuing live entertainment, numerous food and drink vendors, a kids area and, of course, the biggest and best fireworks display in Southwest Florida.

Admission is still free at the celebration that attracts an estimated 30,000 people every year with a couple of paid options for BOOM! 2016.

The Cat Country Party Pit will offer front-of-the-stage viewing for this year's lineup, including local favorite Soapy Tuna, national country stars Love & Theft and headliner Michael Ray. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the gate for access to the standing-only party pit, that also will provide prime viewing for the $25,000-$35,000 fireworks display.

The Kid's Patriot Park, which will include rides, inflatables, a zip line and more, will offer ride tickets for its attractions.

BOOM! will run from 5 to 10 p.m. along Cape Coral Parkway from Del Prado Boulevard to the Cape Coral Bridge, which will be closed from 3 a.m., July 4, to 3 a.m., July 5, for the July 4th event.

This year's Storm Smart American Fireworks Spectacular - to feature more than 5,000 shells and a full music synchronized show - is scheduled to start at 9:30 p.m., weather permitting.

For those looking to get a crack-of-dawn start on the holiday fun, there is an "early bird" event to help kick off the holiday.

For hard-core enthusiasts, the festivities will begin with the Freedom 5K & WaWa Kid's Fun Run across the Cape Coral Bridge, coordinated by the Chamber of Commerce of Cape Coral.

Race registration will start at 6 a.m. and the race will start at 7:30 a.m. at the foot of the bridge. Visit to pre-register on line.

Those looking to get an even earlier start on the holiday will find information on Hogs & Dogs, a multi-band outdoor concert and barbecue to be held at The Rhythm House in Fort Myers on Sunday to benefit the Lee Sheriff's Office Fallen Officer Fund and the My Autism Connection.

For information on Hogs & Dogs, as well as additional Independence Day events around the county, see the Lee County Shopper inside today's Breeze.

There are lots of options out there this holiday weekend.

Have a very happy and safe hometown Fourth!
