* * The James E. Hendry Chapter of the American Hibiscus Society will hold its monthly meeting on Sunday, Feb. 14, from 1:30 p.m. 4 p.m. at the Salvation Army Building, 10291 McGregor Blvd, Fort Myers.

Kathy Grandoff from the Tampa area will speak on "Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Hibiscus But Were Afraid To Ask". She has over 20 years experience in hibiscus and knows it all. She will answer all your questions as well as talk on making your own cuttings, grafting, fertilizing correctly, proper pruning, showing your blooms at shows, correct soils to successfully grow hibiscus and MORE! You don't want to miss this opportunity.

Other expert hibiscus members will be available during the meeting plus free hibiscus raffles and refreshments. Many exotic hybrid plants have blooms over 8 inches and are in just about every color of the rainbow! Besides red and yellow, they can be blue, green, brown and many blooms with up to five colors!! You will not believe your eyes. The comment heard most is "Wow, are these real?"

Members of this hibiscus chapter will be available for any questions. Admission and parking are free. This is a good opportunity for Southwest Floridians to get firsthand information from an expert.

The society meets at The Salvation Army Building, 102901 McGregor Blvd on the second Sunday of each month at 1:30 p.m. Anyone interested is cordially invited to attend the next meeting Sunday, March 13, at 2:30 p.m. where they will hold their first ever "Gardening Garage Sale" including Hibiscus plants. "Learning to Use Our Website" will be the topic of Jason Menapace's presentation, at the regular monthly meeting of the Calusa Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America on Saturday, Feb. 13. The 9 a.m. meeting will be held at Gulf Coast Village, 1333 Santa Barbara, Cape Coral. All military officers and spouses are invited to attend. Menapace is the chapter's webmaster and he will be providing a tutorial for chapter members on how to use the new website.

The cost for the buffet breakfast is $10 payable at the door. Reservations are requested by today, Feb. 10, and may be made by contacting Dixie Buick, 945-5030, or

The Military Officers Association of America is a national organization representing the interests of the military. Florida is the third largest state of membership.

** Garden Club of Cape Coral

Today, Feb. 10 at 7 p.m., The Garden Club of Cape Coral will host a presentation by Claudia Mattos, Master Gardener Lee Queen Bee, on The Sustainable Bee Keeper.

On Feb. 20, The Garden Club of Cape Coral has scheduled a bus tour to Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, Coral Gables, Florida. The trip is open to the public. Departure is at 7 a.m. from Coralwood Mall, Cape Coral, Florida and the bus will leave the Garden at 3 p.m. The cost: $53 - includes the bus and entrance to the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden. Please make your check payable to Garden Club of Cape Coral and send to The Garden Club of Cape Coral, PO Box 152022, Cape Coral, Florida 33915. Deadline for Reservations: Jan. 30, and the cost is nonrefundable. Lunch may be purchased at the Garden Cafe which shares a wall with the new butterfly house or you may bring your own lunch. Narrated tram rides are available throughout the day to tour the garden.
