Cape Coral Hospital has received statewide recognition for Leadership in Quality and Patient Safety as part of the Florida Hospital Association Celebration of Service Awards.

The program recognized caregivers, hospital trustees, and hospitals across the state that have achieved notable successes in improving quality and patient safety, made significant impacts on their local communities, engaged hospital staff, transformed care delivery and increased efficiency. Awards were given to 14 people and hospitals at the event, which was held during the FHA Annual Meeting, Oct. 8.

"We are honored to be recognized for the dedication and teamwork that goes into to establishing a culture of safety," said Scott Kashman, Chief Administrative Officer of Cape Coral Hospital. "Safety is our top priority; one that requires engaging teams of employees, volunteers, and physicians to continually strive for improvement in order to provide the highest quality care to our patients."

The Leadership in Quality & Patient Safety Award recognizes the success of establishing safety behaviors and error prevention as daily habits. Focused on renewed priorities including prevention, healing and community connectivity, Cape Coral Hospital utilizes the Samueli Institute's Optimal Healing Environment framework and Lean as its management system to increase patient safety, employee wellness, and as a catalyst for achieving overall business outcomes.

"Every day, Florida caregivers and trustees work to deliver the best quality care at the best value," said Bruce Rueben, FHA president. "The hospitals and leaders recognized this year have demonstrated innovative ways to impact patient care and their communities."

With a focus on clinical excellence, nutrition, physical activity and a better environment, Cape Coral Hospital has received national and statewide recognition for its patient safety initiatives.

Cape Coral Hospital is the first community hospital in the state of Florida to receive the Governor's Sterling Award in recognition of successfully achieving performance excellence in management and operations. Further recognition includes Healthgrades five star ratings for stroke, heart failure and women's health. The hospital also received grant funds from the Department of Defense to study outcomes after integrating the OHE framework in its strategies.
