A pair of Fort Myers Miracle teammates were honored in the final Florida State League weekly awards for 2014. Stuart Turner was named the FSL Player of the Week and Ethan Mildren the FSL Pitcher of the Week as announced by League President Chuck Murphy on Tuesday.
Turner, 22, was 8-for-18 with at least one hit in all five games played for the week of Aug. 25-Sept. 1. A third round pick by the Twins in 2013 out of the University of Mississippi, Turner also scored a run in all five games, hit two homers and eight RBI.
Going 4-for-4 against Bradenton on Aug. 25 to start the week, Turner ended his first full season as a professional with a .249 average, seven homers, 40 RBI and 49 runs scored over 93 games. Turner also caught 32 percent of attempted base-stealers and posted a fielding percentage of .993.
Mildren, 23, registered his best outing with the Miracle in a complete-game, seven-inning shutout of the Jupiter Hammerheads on Aug. 30. Selected in the 12th round out of the University of Pittsburgh in 2013 by the Twins, Mildren is in his first full season in the organization. He faced just two batters over the minimum and scattered three hits with two strikeouts.
Mildren and Turner bolster a Miracle roster that battles the Bradenton Marauders in the best-of-three South Divisonal series. The series is at JetBlue Park Wednesday and, if necessary, Thursday. The winner hosts the best-of-five FSL Championship series.
