Baker sweeps South

Ida Baker made it 2-for-2 in the opening week of the volleyball season with a straight-set victory (25-17, 25-15, 25-13) Thursday over South Fort Myers.

Devon Ramey, Ashley Vargas, Amanda Gross and Kristina Kayatta each contributed five kills to the Bulldogs' cause. Kayatta also connected for 13 assists.

The Bulldogs (2-0) visit Lehigh on Tuesday.

Mariner 3, East Lee County 0: Junior Jasmine O'Neill delivered seven killshots and sophomore Abby Love delivered six kills to lead Mariner's 25-8, 25-13, 25-5 victory in the Tritons' home floor debut.

Madi McClellan accounted for 18 service points with Love topping out at 26 service points in the team effort.

Cape Coral 3, Island Coast 1: Cape Coral evened its early season record at 1-1 Thursday with a 3-1 victory at Island Coast.

Alaysia Henry paced the Seahawks with nine kills in the 25-22, 25-12, 19-25, 25-19 victory. Setter Danielle Smith handed out 27 assists to go with 17 service aces.

The Seahawks make their home debut next Wednesday against powerhouse Fort Myers.

Oasis 3, Estero 0: As she has done so many times before, Larra Bickelhaupt led Oasis to victory Thursday night over Estero.

Bickelhaupt served up eight aces to go with nine kills, eight digs and one block en route to the Sharks' 25-16, 25-13, 25-16 win.

Sam Bebber added seven kills and one ace while Vanessa Robbins contributed six kills with four digs. Setter Caitlin Cantrell handed out 14 assists to go with two aces.

The Sharks (2-0) host LaBelle next Thursday.

Boys Golf

At Royal Tee CC: Oasis(149) improved to 3-1 on the season with a rain-shortened match victory Thursday over Canterbury (156) and Community Christian (173).

John Schluetter of Oasis shared medalist honors with Zack Cuoto of Community Christian at 4-over-par 33. Chase Ryan (36) and Kyle Erdner (38) contributed with rounds under 40 for the Sharks.

The Sharks take on Southwest Florida Christian next Thusday at Heritage Palms.
