Edith G. Brown, 92, of Cape Coral, died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2014, at Sterling House Assisted Living in Central, S.C. Born May 16, 1922, in North Adams, Mass., to Edwin and Margaret Murdock, she resided most of her life in Carlisle, Pa., and Annandale, Va. Mrs. Brown graduated from Pennsylvania Hospital School for Nursing in Philadelphia, and served as a nurse in the U.S. Army during World War II.
She is survived by her children, Ed (Nancy) of Vienna, Va., and Ken (Nancy) of Central ,S.C.; three grandchildren, Rob (Shawn) of Baltimore, Md., Michelle of Herndon, Va., and Justin of Richmond, Va.; her sister, Alice Martin; and two nieces, Edie (Ed) Wise and Patricia Martin, all of Cape Coral.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Brown.
There will be no funeral service. Mrs. Brown's ashes will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery at a future date, and a memorial service for the family will be held at that time.
She had a love for animals and the family requests that memorial gifts be made to Animal Refuge Center (ARC), 18011 Old Bayshore Road, North Fort Myers, FL, 33917.
