Uhler finalist for volunteer
of the year honor
Tom Uhler, principal with Uhler and Vertich Financial Planners, is one of three national finalists for volunteer of the year, one of five categories in the Invest in Others Community Leadership Awards. Uhler is being honored for his work with United Way of Lee, Hendry, Glades and Okeechobee, which will receive a $5,000 donation from the Invest in Others Charitable Foundation. If Uhler wins his category, the donation will increase to $20,000. The foundation will announce the winners in New York City Sept. 18
Uhler, immediate past-chairman of the board, chaired the 2011-2012 United Way fundraising campaign, mobilizing and motivating 1,200 volunteers to surpass their $8 million fundraising goal. He chairs the allocation process, which involves more than 300 volunteers who conduct annual site visits and evaluate funding requests for each of the United Way's 70-plus agencies and 180 programs.
A Sanibel Island resident, Uhler founded Uhler and Vertich Financial Planners in 2002.
While in New York City for the award presentation, Uhler and the other award finalists will visit the Nasdaq MarketSite in New York City's Time Square. Bill Dwyer, chairman of the board of Invest in Others, will ring the bell to open the trading day Sept 19.

Dresses and accessories collected through this drive will be sold at the sixth installment of Lee County's Love that Dress! Wednesday, Aug. 27, at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Estero. In 2013, the event raised over $120,000.
The PACE Center for Girls of Lee County offers year-round counseling and academic services for girls, ages 12-18, who are facing challenges such as foster care, domestic violence, abuse and neglect, death of a parent, substance abuse, and/or family history of incarceration.

Scanlon Lexus to host
Women in Business Wine Auction
Scanlon Auto Group will host the 2014 Greater Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce Women in Business Wine Auction on Wednesday, Sept. 3, from 4-6 p.m.
The event will be held at Scanlon Lexus' new two-story, state-of-the-art 77,800-square foot dealership located at 14200 South Tamiami Trail in Fort Myers.
Proceeds from the Wine Auction benefit the Women in Business Scholarship Fund that supports nontraditional female students demonstrating financial need, with preference given to single, divorced or widowed women with children.
Donated items are now being accepted including wine, wine accessories, gift baskets, gift certificates, gift cards and more.
Scanlon Auto Group supports a number of charitable events and organizations through monetary support and materials including vehicles for golf tournaments, parades and races. Annually, Scanlon Auto donates more than $100,000 locally.
