Fort Myers Miracle center fielder Byron Buxton on Monday was named the Florida State League Player of the Week for the period of July 14-20.
Buxton, 20, was the second overall pick of the MLB first-year Player Draft in 2012 by the Minnesota Twins. A native of Baxley, Ga., Buxton played in four games in the past week and went 10-for-20 at the plate with one triple, two home runs, four runs batted in and scored six runs.
Buxton has been limited to just 13 games due to a wrist injury sustained in March during Spring Training. For the season, he is hitting .280 (14-for-50) with a double, triple, three homers, six RBI and 10 runs scored. Buxton currently is listed as day-to-day for the Miracle, but is not on the disabled list.
Entering the year, Buxton was ranked as the No. 1 prospect in baseball according to both MLB.com and Baseball America.
