Past champions and alumni of the Southwest Florida Junior Golf Association (SWFJGA) are returning to fairways of the Cypress Lake Country Club next week for the 22nd annual Nolan Henke-Patty Berg Junior Masters tournament.
Three-time defending boys' 13-15 division champion Landon Weber, who will be a sophomore at Fort Myers High School this fall steps up to the boys' 16-18 division for this year's event slated for July 30-Aug. 1. In the history of the tournament, Weber is the first to ever record a division sweep. Among the girls, 2012 division champ Brittany Shin returns for another crack at a championship.
Likewise, many association and event alumni who have continued their passion for golf as college, club and tour professionals are returning for this year's tournament, playing in Monday's Pro-Am, which is the SWFJGA's fundraising effort for its scholarship fund.
Among them is current PGA Tour pro George McNeill, who won the first two Junior Masters titles in 1993-94. Joining him in the Pro-Am field are past tour pros Terry-Jo Myers and Nolan Henke. The Pro-Am tees off at 8:30 a.m. on Monday.
The Junior Masters boasts a field of top national junior players ages 13-18 in three divisions - girls, and boys' 13-15 and 16-18 - and the occasional international player. They will play three 18-hole rounds over three days to determine division champions. Players tee off beginning at 7:40 a.m. each morning followed by an awards ceremony after the final round next Friday.
