Northwest Regional Library sets schedule for next month

Next month's roster of activities at Northwest Regional Library offers topics for all ages. The following activities are free to the public:

ADULT

Exhibit: Beaches, Creatures and Cowboys: Florida Movie Posters

Aug. 6 30

Available during normal library

operating hours: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Tuesday: Noon to 8 p.m.; Friday, Saturday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This exhibit from the Museum of Florida History presents a selection of more than 50 colorful, eye-catching reproductions of movie posters, lobby cards and handbills, covering some of Florida's most famous films from the 1920s to the present.

Movie producers have been making films in Florida almost since the dawn of the industry. For a short time in the early 20th century, Florida even rivaled California as a place for movie making. Now you can relive the history of Florida film at Northwest Regional Library!

English Caf

10:30 a.m., Thursdays,

Aug. 7, 14, 21, 28

Practice your English with English Cafe, a free, conversation session for adult ESOL and ESL students. Each 90-minute session provides adult learners an opportunity to practice speaking English with native speakers. Participants may start at any time. Advanced registration is not necessary.

FAMILY

Baby-Parent Rhyme Time

10:30 a.m., Wednesdays, Aug. 20, 27

9:30 a.m., Saturdays, Aug. 23, 30

Be prepared to tickle, jump and fly with your baby! These rhymes and songs are for infants, up to 24 months, accompanied by an adult. This 20-minute program is filled with songs designed to introduce rhyming and movement to infants. Registration is required.

Family Storytime

11 a.m. Thursdays, Aug. 21, 28

This program is for the whole family and lasts about 30 minutes. Registration is required.

CHILDREN

Kids Read Down Fines

10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturdays, Aug. 9, 23

57 p.m., Tuesdays, Aug. 12, 26

Children and teens can earn a $2 coupon for every 15 minutes of reading, during the allotted time. A total of $8 per day may be earned. For ages 18 and younger. Coupons may be applied to cards issued to patrons age 18 and under only. Bring your library card with you. Your library card or library card number is required in order to access your account.

Get Creative and Turn

on the Bright Side of Your Brain!

6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 19

Get creative and turn on the bright side of your brain with a back-to-school brain recharging session by Doug MacGregor. Registration requested.

Elementary My Dear

4 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 21

Enjoy the fun and share some of the library's favorite books and fun activities designed specifically for elementary school aged children. Registration is required.

TEEN

On the Table: Headphone Beading Blitz

Personalize your headphones with this quick and fun Perler bead project. Perler beads provided by the Friends of the Northwest Regional Library. Please bring your own headphones.

Game'n

3 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 27

How many books can you balance on your head and walk 20 feet? Can your team win the coconut broom race? Do you enjoy board games, card games or electronic games? Your choice. Join in the fun and light snacks. Snacks provided by the Friends of the Northwest Regional Library.
