Peter G. Kosmopoulos

Peter G. Kosmopoulos, 83, formerly of Cape Coral, and Beloit, Wis., beloved husband, father and grandfather, died Friday, July 11, 2014, after a long illness.

He was born Feb. 13, 1931 in Beloit, Wis., the son of George P. and Elene (Drelios) Kosmopoulos. He was a 1949 graduate of Beloit High School. He married Florence Mae Ross Sept. 18, 1955. Together they raised three children while they ran Dryan's Ice Cream Store, the family business. He was a Korean War veteran of the U.S. Army.

He was employed by Beloit Corporation as a draftsman. He was a member of many community organizations which included the Beloit Jaycees, a charter member of the Beloit Evening Lions Club, Beloit Lions Club, Cape Coral Lions Club, the Beloit Chamber of Commerce Ambassador (Red Coat), past president of Gaston School PTA, South Beloit Business Men's Association and the Wisconsin Lions Club Pin Trader Club. His many businesses included PK's popcorn, Dryan's Ice Cream, Dryan's Dari-Ripple and Dryan's North. He was known for his big smile and warm heart. His homemade ice cream and sweet treats brought happiness to the tummies of children both young and old for many years. He retired in 1992 but he remains a favorite in the hearts of Beloiters.

In their retirement years, Pete and Florence split their time between Lakeland Camping Resort in Milton, Wis., and their home in Cape Coral. They loved spending time with their grandchildren, gardening, dancing and trading Lions Club pins.

He is survived by his loving daughters, Debbie (Jay) DuFoe of Loves Park, Ill., and Cindy (John) Podvin of Fairport, N.Y.; son, George (Kathy)Kosmopoulos of Milton, Wis.; and his seven grandchildren, Nathan and Alex DuFoe; Sarah Podvin; and Peter, Aleta, Marcella, Anna Kosmopoulos. Other family members include his sister, Antonea Malleris of Willowbrook, Ill., and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents and loving wife, Florence.

Funeral service will be 4 p.m., Sunday, July 20, in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, with the Rev. Ian Stirrat officiating. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until the time of service in the funeral home.

A special thank you to Michelle and all of the staff at the Golden Living Center for the special care and compassion at the end of his days.
