Richard Dominic Castiglione of Cape Coral passed away Monday, June 16, 2014 at Hope Hospice in Cape Coral after 83 wonderful years.

He was born Octo. 22, 1930. in White Plains, N.Y., to Joseph Robert and Ida Sarah (Venezia) Castiglione.

"Dick" grew up in Harrison, N.Y., and moved to Florida in his junior year and graduated from Ft. Lauderdale High School in 1950. After high school he attended Florida State University for two years before joining the U.S. Navy where he served for four years. Following service during the Korean War, he returned to Ft. Lauderdale and began working for his father as a general contractor. He later worked for Walgreen's Corporation for many years before starting his own floral business which grew into a very successful shop named "Richard's Florist." He sold his business in 1983 and moved to Panama City, Fla., and worked for Marriott's Bay Point Resort. He relocated to Cape Coral in 2000.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert; and his wife, June, to whom he was married to for 50 years.

He loved life and being around people. He never met a stranger. He was a doting father, a loving husband and a loyal friend to many people. He could be a "master negotiator" or display many artistic qualities which he put to work in both his businesses and various hobbies he enjoyed like golf and fishing. Somehow he found time to make custom golf clubs and custom fishing rods.

He was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus for over 50 years and organized many fund-raising events for various K of C charities.

He is survived by his wife of 5 years, Margaret (Peggy) Castiglione; children, Joseph (Kristen) Castiglione of Norman, Okla., Anne Bruening of Ft. Lauderdale and Richard Castiglione of Panama City; step-children, Theresa (Larry) Mumford of Panama City and Michael (Lori) Trabold of Milton, Fla.; grandchildren, Kyle Bruening, Joseph Castiglione Jr., and Jonathan Castiglione; step-grandson, Michael Trabold; and great-granddaughter, Lily Bruening.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday, June 28, at 11 a.m., at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church in Cape Coral.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Richard to Hope Hospice, 9470 HealthPark Circle, Fort Myers, FL 33908, or St. Katharine Drexel Church, 1922 S.W. 20th Ave., Cape Coral, FL 33991.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Cape Coral's Fuller Metz Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Panama City.
