Cape Coral Cyclones crowned Presidents Cup champ

FRISCO, Texas US Youth Soccer has announced the 2014 US Youth Soccer Region III (South) Presidents Cup champions, crowned Sunday in Decatur, Ala.

Winning teams in the Under-13 through Under-17 Boys and Girls age groups advance to the 2014 US Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup, July 10-13 in Greenville, S.C.

The 4-day tournament featured 128 teams that had won their respective State Presidents Cup events from 12 different US Youth Soccer State Associations - Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, North Texas, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Texas and Tennessee.

During the tournament, the Cape Coral Cyclones tied STX - Lions 97 Red, 0-0, then defeated AL - Mobile Bay FC 97, 2-0, and MS - CSA United, 10-0, to advance.

In the semifinals, the Cyclones defeated SC - SCUFC 96 Boys Palmetto II, 3-1.

In the finals, the Cape squad defeated the STX - Lions 97 Red, 3-2, to win the title.

The US Youth Soccer Presidents Cup is designed for teams seeking additional challenges to play for a national title against teams of similar abilities. The cup provides a progressive, competitive experience to teams that might not otherwise get the opportunity to participate in a series of unique experiences highlighting competition, camaraderie and community from the state to regional to national levels of US Youth Soccer.
