Sawfish surprise

June 13, 2014
Cape Coral Daily Breeze

Fort Myers native Daniel Stahl got the surprise of his life earlier this week when he hooked and released a 7 1/2-foot sawfish near the Cape Coral Bridge. He was using a four-inch chunk of frozen ladyfish on a circle hook hoping to catch a bull shark. When the sawfish took the bait he knew he had something other than a bull or stingray by the way it was fighting. Hooked perfectly in the corner of the mouth at the end of a rig of 300-pound wire, monofilamanent and 80-pound power pro braid, Stahl's brother Samuel had time to snap a quick photo before releasing his first sawfish encounter.
