Marie Rita Hill Campbell, 87, former resident of Chevy Chase, Md., and Cape Coral, passed away peacefully Friday, June 6, 2014.

She was born Nov. 28, 1926, in Jersey City, N.J., the daughter of James and Margaret McLinden. She was raised near Pittsburgh with her siblings, Joan and Jimmy. She studied nursing at Mercy College School of Nursing (1944-1947) and did her nurse's training at the VA Hospital in Lyons, N.J. She worked at Thomas Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia, Lower Bucks County Hospital in Bristol, Pa., Cape Coral Hospital and worked as a private nurse as well.

In 1947 Marie married Jack Hill and together they had five children in a marriage which lasted 41 years. She moved to Florida where she met and married Robert Campbell. They enjoyed retired life together for 9 years.

She was active in the Catholic church and being community minded, often worked as a volunteer. She was an avid bridge player and loved to read and garden. She also loved golf, tennis, dancing, cooking and entertaining. She will be known as someone who was excellent at organizing gatherings, including bridge marathons, theater outings, newcomers club events and family celebrations. She thoroughly enjoyed Broadway Theater and traveling.

She is survived by her children, Jonathan and Dale (daughter-in-law) Hill of Bethesda, Ms., Linda Hill of Dover, Del., Pat and Lou (son-in-law) Lucibello of Alamo, Calif., Deborah Hill of London, England, and Suzanne and Marc (son-in-law) Krauss of Midlothian, Va. She is also survived by grandchildren, Brian, Diana, Jason, Rachel and Ian; by her sister, Joan of McKeesport, Pa.; and by her 14 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Jimmy, and her husbands Jack Hill and Bob Campbell.

A memorial service will be held at Our Lady of Mercy Church in Potomac, Md., Saturday June 14, at 11:45 a.m. She will be laid to rest in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Byron House, 9210 Kentsdale Drive, Potomac, MD 20854.
