To the editor:
For more than 40 years Cape Coral residents have enjoyed the beautiful Yacht Club area facilities, the beach, pier for fishing or walking, the Rotino Senior Center and Yacht Club Social Center. We can thank the Rosen brothers for their foresight in creating a wonderful gathering place for us.
However, over the years parking has become an increasing problem. With the expansion of Boathouse Grill, the parking during the Memorial Day weekend was a nightmare, and this isn't even the peak tourist season!
As a long-time resident living adjacent to the old Cape Coral Golf and Tennis Resort, which was in the original development plan for Cape Coral, I would like to suggest the city consider the feasibility of finding a way to acquire that property. It is currently closed and unused and has become a thriving wildlife preserve with American bald eagles and may other varieties of birds.
The Yacht Club and Rotino Center could be located and become an asset as a peoples park with endless possibilities, making room for additional parking at the beach.
Everyone would be happier.
