NASHVILLE, Tenn. -FGCU's Atlantic Sun Championship hopes remain alive after the Eagles defeated fifth-seed Kennesaw State 5-3 Thursday afternoon.
The win follows Wednesday's 4-1 opening round loss to Stetson, but keeps them in contention for the title in the double-elimination tournament.
Kelsey Carpenter started the Eagles' surge with a home run over the right field wall for a 1-0 lead in the first inning. FGCU tacked on four runs in the second inning.
The Eagles (32-25-1) will face the winner of the USC Upstate-Lipscomb elimination game at 4 p.m. Friday.
In Wednesday's opener, a fourth-inning homer by senior Brittney Barabedian was the only run the Eagles got.
The Eagles produced just three hits, allowing Stetson to record 11.
