Betty Jennings, 99, passed away Friday, Jan. 31, 2014, in Tallahassee, Fla. She was born Jan. 6, 1915, in Philadelphia, to Percy and Florence Craig. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Capt. Robert Jennings, retired U.S. Navy in 2001, as well as her parents; older brother and sister, Percy S. Craig and Amelia Warden; and two granddaughters, Jodi Pegram and Robin Pegram.
Betty and Bob met on a blind date and were married several months later. For 26 years as a military wife, Betty traveled and lived at numerous duty stations around the world. In 1972, after her husband retired, they became permanent residents of Cape Coral. But the traveling didn't stop for long; they boarded cruises and visited many foreign countries around the globe. She was an active member of Epiphany Episcopal Church for 34 years. She was a volunteer with the Red Cross as well as the Pink Ladies Hospital Auxiliary for more than 50 years. She volunteered over 25 years at both Lee Memorial and Cape Coral hospitals. In 2000, Betty and Bob moved into Gulf Coast Village. Betty remained at Gulf Coast Village several years after her husband died. In 2006 she relocated to Tallahassee, Fla., where she remained the rest of her life.
She will always be remembered for her outgoing personality, her love of all people, great cooking, a joke always ready to be told and her "Happy Hours." So raise your glass and make a toast to Betty for an extraordinary "Life Well Lived." Betty, Mom, Mom-Mom, may you always walk in sunshine, God's love surrounding you.
Mrs. Jennings is survived by her four children, Craig Jennings (Ann) of Arlington, Va., Susan Pegram (Earl) of Tampa, Fla., Robert Jennings, Jr. (Gayle) of Houston, Texas, and Jeffrey Jennings (Danielle) of Tallahassee, Fla. She also is survived by nine grandchildren, Steve Jennings (Linda), David Jennings, Scooter Pegram, Craig Pegram (Claire), Robert Jennings, III (Kellie), Charles Jennings (Holly), Kyra Jennings, Lucy Jennings and Matthew Jennings; and six great-grandchildren, Marissa Jennings, Claudia Jennings, Myra Pegram, Morgan Jennings, Tyler Jennings and Kenny Jennings.
