Bryce VanHorn came through with a gem on the mound Monday night as Ida Baker knocked off North Fort Myers 4-3 in the District 6A-11 Tournament opening game at North.

"We've had one-run games with them this season," said Bulldogs coach Bob VanDeventer. "With Bryce's gem and some timely hits, a lot of stolen bases and running the bases well, yeah, we expected to win it."

VanHorn allowed three runs on seven hits with three strikeouts in a complete-game victory. Christian Proffitt and Darren Latoree contributed two hits apiece with Gabe Villaverde adding a double and Brent Digby an RBI.

District 6A-11: Top seed Venice continued its season domination of No. 2 seed North Fort Myers with a 3-1 victory Monday in the championship game of the District 6A-11 Tournament that was postponed by rain on Thursday.

North struck first, manufacturing a run in the first inning when Katelyn Kelly led off with a single, stole two bases and scored on a wild pickoff attempt. Kelly finished with two of the Red Knights' total of three hits.

Venice countered with two runs in the fourth inning to take the lead for good. A single, a walk and an RBI single produced one run with the second scoring on an error. The Vikings tacked on an insurance run in the sixth.

Mackenzie Peterson (14-5) took the loss despite allowing just five hits while striking out five.

The Knights (20-5) advance to the Region 6A-3 quarterfinal playoffs Wednesday at Barron Collier. Meanwhile, Venice will host Naples.
