Walk-off HR beats Gators 9-7

Island Coast recovered from a 5-1 deficit to tie the game in the sixth inning and grabbed one-run leads in the seventh and eighth before losing 9-7 at Gulf Coast Thursday night on a three-run walkoff home run in the last of the eighth.

Anthony Churlin and Andrew Nazario contributed two hits apiece for the Gators, Nikko Rodriguez struck a double and Dante Ciminati drove in a run.

Trey Pierce clubbed the three-run home run in the last of the eighth to win it for the Sharks.

The Gators (13-7) play at DeSoto County Friday night.


Mariner 12, South Fort Myers 7: Mariner came from behind to beat South Fort Myers Thursday night.

A six-run fifth-inning uprising tied the game at 7-7 for the Tritons, who added five more runs in the sixth inning to seal the victory.

Abby Love drove in four runs with two base hits to lead the Tritons. Madison James doubled and drove in two runs while Kaylyn Friday pitched three innings in relief, allowing one hit and no runs to pick up the victory.

The Tritons (9-11) play Lehigh Friday at Mariner in the first round of the two-day Cape Coral/Mariner Invitational Tournament.
