Softball

Fort Myers 5, Cape Coral 4: With the game tied 4-4 entering the bottom of the seventh inning, the Fort Myers Green Wave pushed across the game-winning run with two out when the batter beat out a ground ball up the middle at first base Wednesday night.

Makenzie Buss and Ashley Wagner led the Seahawks with two hits apiece. Wagner had a double and a solo home run while Buss stole two bases. As the losing pitcher, Buss (12-4) struck out eight batters.

The Seahawks (13-6) host half of the two-day Tritons Invitational beginning Friday. They face Hernando in their first game at 7 p.m. Friday.

Tennis

Region 3A-6: Barron Collier eliminated Ida Baker from postseason play 6-1 on Wednesday.

Baker's only win came in the No. 5 singles match as senior Chris Carrillo, the district champion at that level, knocked off his Cougars opponent 7-5, 6-4 in his last high school match.

"We fought ferociously even though we were outmatched," said Bulldogs coach Karlene Hampton. "It was a good learning experience. Not bad for a school without tennis courts."
