Janice Adele Briggs, 77, a Cape Coral resident since 1996, formerly of Sussex, Wis., passed away Monday, March 31, 2014 in Cape Coral. She was born Aug. 17, 1936, in Waukesha, Wis., to Charles and Pauline Hoffmann, now deceased.
She and her husband enjoyed boating throughout their entire lives. They lived and traveled for four years on their boat, Amanece, throughout the western rivers enjoying a sailor's life. She enjoyed journaling and documenting their many boating adventures. She was fascinated with studying genealogy. In her spare time she enjoyed reading, gardening, canning and fishing with her family. She enjoyed keeping current with the latest technology and embraced the ever changing world of computers. As a staunch conservative, she followed politics closely. Spending time with her grandkids was a joy for her.
Many family vacations prior to retirement years were spent split between the cabin in Manitowish Waters, boating the Mississippi and various inland waterways, camping across the country and helping on the Brodhagen family farm in Bonduel Wis.

In her younger years, she worked at her sister's farm, Tesch Greenhouse, from grade school through high school. Some of her fondest memories from the farm were bunching radishes and riding on the farm truck. She had wonderful stories and memories of working with her family and friends on the farm.
Mrs. Briggs had a vast work career that included Sentry Foods, attended IBM Data Processing School, data processing manager of Standard Oil Indiana, raised her family, assisted as secretary of the Railroad Engineers Union, secretary treasurer of Wisconsin Enginemen Association, Fishing Facts Magazine, F&M Bank and retired as human resources manager of Associated Bank.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 56 years, Melvin H. Briggs of Cape Coral; three children, LeAnne Witzel (Tom) of Waukesha, Wis., Peter Briggs (Laura) of Erin, Wis., and Ted Briggs ( Vicki) of Cedarburg, Wis.; as well as nine grandchildren, Kyle, Jordan, Thomas, Alex, Elizabeth, Addie, Andrew, Ben and Lucas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by 11 siblings.
Memorial services will be held at 3:30 p.m., Friday, April 11, at The Loft and Chapel at Cedar Ridge, W23827 Bluemound Rd N7, Waukesha, WI 53188. The family will receive friends at 2:30 p.m. until the hour of service. Immediately following the service, dinner will be served.
Memorial contributions in memory of Janice A. Briggs may be made to the American Cancer Society, 4574 Via Royale, Fort Myers, FL 33919. A private burial will occur at a later date.
