An official women's professional golf tournament has been designated for a tour stop at Cypress Lake Country Club from April 28-May 4.

The inaugural Chico's Patty Berg Memorial Golf Tournament is part of the Symetra Tour, the official developmental tour of the LPGA Tour, which began its 34th season in 2014. Over the three days of competition, 144 LPGA Tour hopefuls will compete for a $100,000 purse and the opportunity to earn points toward their LPGA Tour membership.

The Symetra Tour features some of the nation's top young female golfers, including Cheyenne Woods, 23, the niece of Tiger Woods. Woods already has enjoyed some success as a professional golfer. On Feb. 9, she captured her first victory on a major tour at the Volvik RACV Australian Ladies Masters (Ladies European Tour).

The Patty Berg Memorial event, which pays homage to one of the LPGA Tour founders and Fort Myers resident, the late Patty Berg, will be played on the Dick Wilson designed course which opened in 1959.

Berg, a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame, owns the all-time record for most major wins, a total of 15, by a female golfer.

Practice rounds begin at Cypress Lake Country Club on April 29. Pro-ams will be played on April 30 and May 1, with tour competition to start on May 2 and end on May 4.

For more information on attending, volunteering, sponsoring and playing in the pro-am, contact tournament director Matt Hoover at 239-254-9770.
