Seahawks post 15th win

Cape Coral High posted its 15th victory of the season Friday night in a 2-1 win over Cypress Lake.

Shane McClanahan (6-0) struck out 11 over six innings to pick up the win with help from Jose Valmana, who struck out two in one inning of relief.

Luke Spangler and Matt Richey doubled while Kyle Arjona contributed an RBI double for the Seahawks. Robert Becker delivered with a safety squeeze in the seventh for the winning run.

The Seahawks (15-4) play Tuesday at Fort Myers.

Ida Baker 6, North Fort Myers 5: C.J. Schrowe pitched 5 1/3 innings, striking out five, and Jordan Pinto (3-0) finished it off with one inning of relief, striking out two, to earn the victory Thursday at North Fort Myers.

In the seventh inning, Pinto and Zach Nason walked amd Darren Latorre bunted the runners to second and third. A pickoff play that went awry produced the game-winning run.

The Bulldogs (5-11) host Estero on Monday.

Mariner 5, Golden Gate 1: Michael Patton pitched a three-hit gem Friday to lead Mariner to victory at Golden Gate.

Patton (3-0) allowed one earned run over seven innings to earn the win. Michael Laborde broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring, two-out single in the third inning to earn the Tritons a 2-1 lead they never relinquished. Joey Morales went 3-for-4 with two triples and one RBI to lead the offense and Mason Eicher contributed two RBI.

The Tritons (12-8) play again on Monday at Lehigh.

Softball

Mariner 8, Golden Gate 7: Three players accounted for six on Mariner's eight base hits Thursday night to drive the Tritons to victory at Golden Gate.

Heather Gillions, Lindsey Nelson and Felicia Rice each collected two base hits to back the pitching of Kaylyn Friday (9-8), who walked two and allowed 10 hits.

The Tritons (9-11) broke the game open with a four-run uprising in the fourth inning to take a 7-2 lead, which they never relinquished. Golden Gate made a game of it with five runs over the last three innings, but the Tritons' run in the sixth proved to be the difference.

Mariner hosts Port Charlotte on Tuesday.

North Fort Myers 10, Gulf Coast 6: A two-run single by Melinda Thirion in the third inning put North Fort Myers in front for good in Friday's win at Gulf Coast.

North scored three more tuns in the fifth, thanks to a two-run single by Marion Reed, and two more in the sixth on a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly by Thirion to hold off the Sharks.

The Red Knights added two runs in the seventh on RBI singled by Kaitlynn Grubb and Kaylee Morgan.

Mackenzie Peterson (12-1) earned the win while striking out six.

The Knights (16-1) host Barron Collier on Monday.

Cape Coral 12, Cypress Lake 4: Cheyenne Krolczyk drove in three runs with three base hits to lead Cape Coral's victory at Cypress Lake Friday night.

Ally Slaughter and Danielle Smith contributed two hits apiece, with Smith driving in two runs with a double. Heather Dubay also had two hits and scored twice.

Makenzie Buss (12-3) picked up the win with 4 2/3 innings of one-hit ball and adding a pair of hits to the offense. The Seahawks (13-5) play at Fort Myers on Tuesday.
