Twins raise over $173,000 for cancer care program

The Minnesota Twins' celebrity golf and bowling events in February together raised $173,816 to help provide lifesaving cancer care at Lee Memorial's Regional Cancer Center.

Representatives from the Twins organization headlined both events at Fiddlesticks Country Club and Gator Lanes in Fort Myers.

Sponsors and participants had the chance to golf and bowl alongside their favorite Twins heroes including manager Ron Gardenhire, current stars like Joe Mauer and Twins legends/favorites including Tony Oliva, Paul Molitor, Rod Carew, Roy Smalley, Kent Hrbek and more.

Tournament leader Ken Shoriak of Lee Memorial Health System Foundation said, "While the end of spring training means the Minnesota Twins have left Fort Myers to begin their regular season, the impact they have upon our patients truly lasts a lifetime here in Southwest Florida. Their willingness to step forward to help provide lifesaving treatment for local cancer patients, who otherwise might not be able to afford care, is a godsend and greatly appreciated."

A formal presentation of tournament proceeds took place prior to the Twins final spring training home game on March 28 at Hammond Stadium.
