Baker pulls out win in 7th

March 26, 2014

Freshman pitcher C.J. Schrowe pitched a complete game one-hit gem Tuesday night as Ida Baker claimed a 1-0 victory over Cypress Lake by scoring the game-winning run with one out in the seventh inning.

With Cameron Farmer on second base after a one-out single and a stolen base, sophomore Gabe Villaverde drove a hard ground ball through the shortstop for an error. Farmer raced to the plate and beat the throw from center field to end the game.

"It was a big outing by C.J.," said Bulldogs coach Bob Van Devender. "We have three games in three days, so we needed an effort like that. He went above and beyond."

The Bulldogs (3-10) travel to Mariner Wednesday and Cape Coral Thursday for non-district games.

Fort Myers 2, Mariner 1: Tim Watters pitched 6 2/3 solid innings, but Mariner's offense was unable to back him up Tuesday night in a loss to Fort Myers.

Logan Hanick (2-for-3) drove home the Tritons' lone run with an RBI single in the first inning. He also doubled later in the game.

Watters (2-2) allowed both earned runs while striking out three and absorbed the loss. He gave up the game-winning run on a one-out sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh inning.

The Tritons (10-6) have now lost five straight games and try to break that string of frustration Wednesday night against Ida Baker.

North Fort Myers 11, Port Charlotte 1: Katelyn Kelly and Summer Ackerson contributed three base hits apiece and drove in three runs to lead North's rout of district rival Port Charlotte Tuesday night.

Madison White (4-0) allowed Port Charlotte one run on two hits to pick up the win.

The Knights (13-1) travel to Lehigh on Thursday.
