Barbara Jean Pattenaude Pombier passed away peacefully March 18, 2014 after a short stay in Hospice. Born July 2, 1936 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, eldest daughter of Edward and Cora Pattenaude, and sister to Paula Ann, Judy Kay and Nancy Lynn, Barbara attended Springport Michigan High School along with classmate Cyril Pombier, whom she would meet again in later life and marry. Barbara's first husband was Garry Charles Van Eck of Albion, Michigan and they had four children: Victoria Sue Kirk, Susan Marie Sykes, Alan William Van Eck (deceased Jan. 16, 2013) and Tom Eugene Van Eck. Grandchildren include Adam Anthony, Shannon, and Danny Van Eck.
Her career started in Kalamazoo, Michigan and continued in Ohio and New York as a journeyman of the graphic arts. Barbara also studied Hebrew and was active in her local Synagogues in Michigan, Ohio, and New York. Barbara and Cyril retired to Cape Coral, Florida in 2008 where they lived together with their beloved pets in their beautiful garden. Cyril died Feb. 26, 2013, also at Hope Hospice of Cape Coral and both Cyril and Barbara will be comforted to know that Barbara's surviving pets, Misty Morgan, Phoebe, Brody, Kitty and Blue Bird, will be lovingly cared for by Barbara's daughters.
A memorial service for Barbara Pombier and her beloved classmate and soul-mate, Cyril Pombier, is planned in Springport, Michigan on July 2, where their ashes will be buried.
