Freda Lavon Benjamin, 81, a Lee County resident since 1982, formerly of Louisville, Ky., passed away Monday, March 17, 2014, in Cape Coral. She was born Dec. 28, 1932, in Hugoton, Kan., to Fred and Mattie Miller, now deceased.
She was a member of the Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, Fort Myers. She was a remarkable artist, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by three beloved children, Edward A. Benjamin (Kathryn) of Fort Myers, Ray O. Benjamin (Heather Cousineao) of Walpole, Mass., and Julie B. Burdge (Carl) of Cape Coral; a half sister, Patsy Buthel of Paola, Kan.; nine grandchildren, Patrick Benjamin, Sarah Vollmer, Chelsea Benjamin, Rebecca Vollmer, Kelly Wellborn, Kristen Roper, Louis Garofalo, Aaron Burdge and Jared Burdge; as well as three great-grandchildren, Campbell Wellborn, Katherine Wellborn and Zachary Wellborn.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold A. Benjamin, in 1997; as well as a son, Arthur Lee Benjamin.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 22, at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, 4141 Deleon St., Fort Myers.
