FORT MYERS - Top-seeded FGCU cruised to a spot in the 2014 Atlantic Sun Women's Basketball Championship Semifinals with a 92-53 victory against Lipscomb in Alico Arena. Two-time A-Sun Player of the Year, Sarah Hansen registered 18 points in the win as the Eagles advanced to their third-straight semifinal.
FGCU's 39-point win marks the largest margin of victory in A-Sun Championship history. The Eagles opened up a 46-10 advantage at halftime and led by as many as 47 with 17:27 left in the second half. Whitney Knight produced 11 points with seven rebounds and four blocks as five Eagles scored in double figures.
Stephanie Haas and Amanda Moore each added 17 points, while Kaneisha Atwater tallied 10 in the win. Lipscomb's Ashley Southern led the way for the Bisons with 11 points and 14 rebounds; marking her 22nd double-double of the season. Chandler Cooper added 10 points for the Bisons as Lipscomb registered 43 points in the second half.
Maya Dillard tied FGCU's Haas for the game-high in assists with five, while four players recorded two steals. Knight's four blocks topped all players, while Hansen added three swatted shots.
FGCU advances to the A-Sun Championship Semifinals with the victory and face No. 5 Mercer on Saturday, March 15, at 1 p.m. on ESPN3. The Eagles have now won 10-straight games as they improved to 24-7 on the year. Lipscomb's season ends with a 6-24 mark.
