Senior Sammy Malone got his first start in the mound in two years for Island Coast Monday night and even though the Gators lost at Estero 4-3, coach Clint Montgomery was pleased to see him back on the hump.

"It's his first start since he was a sophomore due to injury," said Montgomery. "It was good to see him back out there."

Malone pitched 4 2/3 innings, giving up all four runs but only one earned while striking out six and walking one. The Gators defense let him down, committing five errors.

The Gators scored two runs in the first inning, but Estero goth both back in their half of the first. The Gators took a 3-2 lead in the third, but a dropped fly ball led to the tying run again. Estero plated the game-winning run in the fifth on a throwing error.

Zach Nason got the Bulldogs' only base hit, a single. The Bulldogs' runs came on a sacrifice fly and a fielding error.

Dante Ciminati and Nikko Rodriguez contributed two hits apiece for the Gators, including one RBI apiece. The Gators (8-2) host Venice on Tuesday.

The Bulldogs host Mariner on Wednesday.

Fort Myers 4, Ida Baker 2: Kevin Mitchell pitched a complete-game one-hitter with 11 strikeouts to lead Fort Myers to victory Monday night at Baker.

Carter Smith led the Green Wave at the plate with two doubles and one RBI. The Wave (8-3) travel to Gulf Coast on Wednesday.
