There's no sitting still at the back of the sanctuary when the Barbary Coast Dixieland Band plays. Made up of six talented musicians who play 18 instruments, this group of versatile musicians, who occasionally swap instruments on stage without missing a note, will have your feet tappin' from their very first set! The concert will be held Friday, March 7, at 7 p.m., in the newly remodeled sanctuary; tickets are $10. Come early to our All-You-Can Eat Fish Fry (4:30 7:00 p.m.) for a great evening of dinner and a concert.
The Barbary Coast Dixieland Band has been together since 1967. Elected to the Minnesota Music Hall of Fame in 2001, and rated among the finest entertainers in the Midwest, the band has played everywhere from the Mississippi paddlewheel boats and the Minnesota State Fair, to Nagasaki, Japan. The band is led by left-handed banjo/guitar player Dick Petersen, and includes Tom Andrews on drums, clarinet, and vocals; Jim ten Bensel on trombone, cornet, drums, and vocals; Russ Peterson on trumpet, trombone, sax, clarinet, flute, bass, and vocals; Steve Pikal on bass, trombone, and piano; and, finally, Dick Ramberg on piano and clarinet. In 1984, the group began playing for church services. Over the years, they have participated in worship services at churches throughout the nation. The band's commitment to this Musical Ministry usually involves 40 to 42 Sundays annually.
