To the editor:
Shame on the CEO of Algenol Bio Fuels. Thank you Commissioner Pendergrass, your integrity is a breath of fresh air! The Algenol CEO made a deal with the taxpayers in Lee County. Not complicated, it simply stated that the company will receive a $10 million development incentive and, in return, will provide at least 108 jobs.
No honest person should be offended because their half of the deal is questioned. As a matter of fact, the company should welcome this kind of inquiry. Mr. Woods knows full well that we've been burned before in deals such as this and it's not reasonable for anyone to expect anything less than a complete audit so that both sides can proceed comfortably. Mr. Woods should know that the monies he received were taxpayer dollars, money from me and from every other Lee County resident.
Yes, we expect our Commissioners to be vigilant and we demand that they have the courage to execute the duties of their office with honesty and concern. It would be prudent for every elected official to line up behind Commissioner Pendergrass and salute him for having the guts to do the job he's been hired for.
As for Mr. Woods, there's no apology here. You made a deal and now should be willing to put your honesty on display.
