Tritons sweep baseball doubleheader

Due to a boys' basketball game Thursday night at Mariner, the Tritons rescheduled their baseball game with South Fort Myers on Friday. It proved to be a wise decision as the basketball team advanced in the Region 5A-3 playoffs with a victory and the baseball team scored a doubleheader sweep Friday of Community School of Naples and South Fort Myers.

The Tritons downed CSN 4-2 in an afternoon game capped by a 4-3 win over South Fort Myers in the evening.

Tim Waters allowed one hit and struck out four over six innings to earn his first mound win for the Tritons against CSN. Hunter Chappell pitched one inning in relief for the save.

Luis Ferrer, Mason Eicher and Logan Hanick each contributed two hits for Mariner while Jacob Milos-Scovoronek added a double.

In the nightcap, Michael Patton allowed no earned runs over six innings with four strikeouts against South. Mason Eicher picked up the save with one inning of relief. Brandon Seehery led the Tritons with two hits and Michael Laborde drive in a run with a single.

The Tritons (3-0) travel to Lely for their first disrict game at Lely on Tuesday.

Island Coast 5, Riverdale 0: Nikko Rodriguez clubbed a three-run home run in the fifth inning Friday night to seal Island Coast's shutout win over Riverdale

Dante Cimonatti contributed two hits, including a double and an RBI, while Miguel Vival had three hits for the Gators (2-0), who host Ida Baker on Wednesday.

Fort Myers 1, Port Charlotte 0: Pitcher Tim Winter struck out 11 and allowed just four hits over seven innings Friday night as Fort Myers blanked Port Charlotte.

Eddie Duarte had the only base hit for the Green Wave, who scored the game-winning run in the seventh inning on a throwing error to third base on a sacrivide bunt by Zach Lecius.

Grady Wells pitched a complete-game one-hitter for the Pirates.

The Wave (3-0) play at Riverdale on Tuesday.

Softball

North Fort Myers 5, Ida Baker 0: North's Katelyn Kelly, Sumer Ackerson and Alynn Kayatta each tagged Baker pitching for two base hits and a couple of RBI in Friday's shutout win at Baker.

Mackenzie Peterson (3-0) tossed a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts for the win as Lacey Ellithorpe took the loss for Baker.

The Red Knights (4-0) host Venice while the Bulldogs play at Island Coast, both on Wednesday.

Bishop Verot 11, Cape Coral 0: Annette Castaldo (2-1) pitched a perfect game over five innings, striking out eight, to lead Bishop Verot's shutout win at Cape Coral Friday night.

Castaldo helped her own cause at the plate by driving in two runs. Jennie Boisvert added two hits, including a triple, and two RBI and Jessy McLain had two hits with a double and two RBI.

The Vikings (3-1) host Gateway Charter on Tuesday in their first district game.

Doubles - Sushil-Harris (NFM) def. Benitez-Davidson 8-2; Marie Datus-Carrie Jessell (NFM) won by default.

Record: North 3-0.
