Joseph Henry Russek Sr., 79, of Cape Coral passed away peacefully in God's hands Monday, Feb. 10, 2014, at Hope Hospice, Cape Coral. He was born Sept. 23, 1934, in Middleport, Pa., a son of John and Mary (Parys) Russek Sr.

He graduated from Pottsville (Pa.) High School and proudly served his country in the United States Navy for 20 years, Senior Chief Petty Officer. During his service, he was awarded multiple letters of commendation, (5) Navy Good Conduct Medals and (2) National Defense Service Medals. After retiring from the Navy, he lived in Cape Coral for the past 42 years.

He coached Navy basketball with distinction of winning the Pacific Fleet Championship and many enjoyed the music of The Joe Russek Band, all around Lee County. He was a pianist, played the accordion and was a TV and electronics repairman.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Reri Muniz Russek; his children, Joseph Jr., Jeffrey, Howard (Linda), Brenda Stanislaw (Michael) and Theresa Wright-Facenda (Joseph); his grandchildren, Joseph Russek III, Jennifer (Ratcliffe), Nicole Russek, Nicholas Stanislaw, Kate Stanislaw, John Russek, Phillip Wright and Rachel Wright; his great-grandchildren, Marysia Russek, Ariona Russek and Ethan Ratcliffe; and his sisters, Cecelia Kotchmar, Frances Slider, Veronica Kowaltzyk, Wanda Wible, Josephine Leslie and Hedy Mooar.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his grandson, Jayme Russek, four sisters and three brothers.

Final farewells are being handled privately.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to Hope Hospice.
