Publix sponsors Habitat for Humanity Home with $50,000 donation

As part of its effort to make a difference in the communities it serves, Publix Super Market Charities continued its support of Habitat for Humanity of Lee and Hendry Counties Inc. by sponsoring a home with a $50,000 donation. This brings the amount which Publix Super Market Charities has donated to the local organization to $649,000.

The presentation was marked at the home site in east Fort Myers where Publix employees are building the home.

Habitat homes are built through the use of volunteer labor and donations of money and materials. The homes are then sold to the homeowners with an interest-free mortgage and monthly payments set at less than 30 percent of the homeowner's income, making homeownership an affordable reality. Habitat homeowners must qualify financially for the program; save $1,200 toward their closing costs; attend classes focusing on homeownership, budgeting and home maintenance; and complete 250 hours of "sweat equity" by volunteering at Habitat.

For information on home sponsorship or to volunteer, call 239-652-0434 or visit www.habitat4humanity.org.
