Turn out to tell Cape Council to reconsider Second Amendment protection resolution

January 30, 2014
Cape Coral Daily Breeze

To the editor:

In continuation of our efforts over the past year in getting 2nd Amendment protection resolutions passed in Collier County, Marco Island, City of Naples and Lee County, our friends in the City of Cape Coral are trying to pass their own resolution at the Cape Coral city council.

In light of the actions already taken on the federal level to restrict our 2nd Amendment rights, in addition to the president's own comments at the State of the Union address declaring that he will sidestep congress and issue executive orders to increase gun control, it is absolutely imperative that we come together in our towns, cities and counties and urge our immediate representatives and elected officials to send a message to the state and the country that we will not cooperate with tyranny!

Four courageous citizens, including my friends Matt Worley and Lisa Cohen, faced abuse and ridicule on Monday when the majority of the Cape Coral city council voted down the resolution 6-2.

Thankfully, it is not too late to remedy this situation. I beg the citizens of Lee County and Cape Coral to attend next Monday's Cape Coral city council meeting, stand together with your neighbors and demand that the city council vote to reconsider supporting this resolution during public comment. With something this important at stake, an effort like this should not be left to shoulder by only four people.

I sincerely hope and pray that the City Council chambers will be flooded with citizens standing side by side and demanding action this Monday. There is precious little else that matters more than the protection your constitutional rights.

"Let it not be said that we did nothing."
