It was a tough night for the Florida Everblades, losing their second of three games at home, this one in a shootout to the visiting Orlando Solar Bears 4-3 Friday night at Germain Arena.
Orlando was first to get on the board, beating goaltender Scott Stajcer (25 saves) 6:48 into the contest while on the power play.
The Solar Bears made it 2-0 less than five minutes later, putting the Everblades on their heels, until a power play chance of their own after a Solar Bear when to penalty box for a pair of minor penalties.
The four-minute power play 14:29 into the game was exactly what the Blades needed and they capitalized. Following a series featuring the outstanding play by Philip Michael Devos, Danick Gauthier scored for the Everblades off Devos' assist, getting the home team back into the contest 2-1 heading into the first intermission.
Devos led the charge in the second period. Eventually, his relentless play contributed to a 2-2 tie game with 5:08 to play in the period. Devos' second goal of the year came off a Mathieu Roy pass. Orlando answered less than 2 1/2 minutes later, regaining a one-goal lead entering the final period.
Florida tied the score 5:11 into the final period.
"We had too little emotion early," said Everblades coach Greg Poss. "We made two simple mistakes for goals against, and we ended up chasing the whole game. It's hard to come back when you're down early."
The Everblades look for revenge Saturday night when the teams meet again at Germain Arena.
