Dolores E. Chapman, 85, of Cape Coral, formerly of Toledo, Ohio, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014, following a brief illness. She was surrounded by members of her family.
She was born Jan. 2, 1929, in New York City, where she lived until 1943, when she moved to Toledo with her parents as part of the war effort. She was a founding member of Calvary Assembly of God, Toledo, and later a member of Bethel Assembly of God, Perrysburg, Ohio. She had a lengthy career in food service with Cardinal Industries.
In 1985, Dolores and Leonard moved to Cape Coral, becoming members of First Assembly of God, Fort Myers, where she was active in a variety of ministries. In 2000, she retired from her position as a teacher's aide at Heights Elementary School.
She is survived by her five children, P. Douglas (Donna) Chapman, Paul K. (Vicki) Chapman, David S. Chapman, Susan E. (Chris) Urban and Karen D. (Doug) Magart; 8 grandchildren, Douglas (Mandy), Genevieve, Kendra, Paul (Theresa), Vicki Kay (Kevin), Kristi (Jesse), Jennifer and Aaron; and 18 great-grandchildren, Micheal, Isaac, Kendra, Jordan, Justus, Kenneth, Kristen, Victoria, Matthew, Elizabeth, Rebecca, Bryan, Alexis, Brandon, Kevin, Bradley, Victoria and Morgan.
Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Anne Parker and Vitella Cornett, and a brother-in-law, Buryle "Burt" (Jeanne) Chapman.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Leonard R. Chapman; her parents, the Rev. C. Glen Parker and C. Genevieve McNeely Parker; her brother, John K. Parker; and her brother-in-law, Thomas P. Cornett, Jr.
A funeral was held Friday, Jan. 10, in the First Assembly of God, at the corner of Colonial Boulevard and Summerlin Road, Fort Myers.
