Tritons county record holder held scoreless in finale

Estero spoiled Mariner's senior night Friday at Tony McKenna Field with a 2-0 victory over the Tritons.

The Wildcats also managed to keep junior Holly Fritz from adding to her Lee County career scoring record, which she grabbed Wednesday night with her 149th goal in a 2-2 tie at Charlotte. Fritz scored both of the Tritons' goals.

"She is invaluable to the team," said Tritons coach Jefferson Swift. "She's not only a scorer, but leads the team in assists. She's a great midfield player who has heart, effort and leaves it all on the field every game. She makes everyone around her a better player."

Fritz, who still has her senior year ahead of her next season, has verbally committed to the Florida State Seminoles.

Keeper Alexis Restrepo made eight saves for the Tritons Friday.

The Tritons (10-7-2, 4-2-1 district) open District 3A-13 Tournament play at 7 p.m. Monday against the host Island Coast Gators.

Ida Baker 11, Lehigh 0: Ida Baker finished off the school's first undefeated season Friday night with a shutout win at Lehigh.

Roxie Fraser and Marissa Rosario tallied two goals apiece for the Bulldogs, who got single goals from Marcella Montoya, Gabby Hallnan, Syniah Clark, Kaitlyn Nestoli, Iman Al-Shabibi, Rachel Moussa and Raquel Moussa. Keeper Angela Christiano only need to make two saves to preserve the shutout.

The Bulldogs (20-0-2) take on East Lee County Monday at Island Coast in the District 3A-13 Tournament.

North Fort Myers 8, Cypress Lake 0: North Fort Myers closed out the regular season Friday night with a shutout victory at Cypress Lake.

Gabby Ciancimino and Rachel Lapczynski connected for two goals apiece to lead the Knights. Tori Kowalczyk, Nicole Paquin, Taylor Pascal and Kaitlin Samman each added one goal. Keepers Coral Jarvis and Jacquie Scrivanich combines for four saves.

The second-seed Red Knights (14-5, 7-1 district) face Lemon Bay at 3 p.m. Monday in the District 3A-13 Tournament at Island Coast.

Bishop Verot 6, South Fort Myers 0: Katie Sullivan's two goals were all Bishop Verot would need Friday in the regular season finale against South Fort Myers.

Kelly Reynolds, Allison Oliva, Reille McAloose and Madie Sarna tacked on one goal apiece. Rebecca Abernathy contributed a pair of assists.

Goalkeeper Kinzie Frey had four saves in the shutout.

The top-seeded Vikings (15-3-3) face the winner between LaBelle and Gulf Coast in the District 2A-12 semifinals Tuesday at Vikings Stadium.

Boys Soccer

Mariner 2, South Fort Myers 0: Erick Rivera and Hunter Sperry accounted for Mariner's goals Friday night while keeper Michael Laborde made four saves to record his 14th shutout of the season at South Fort Myers.

Trevor Jurkowski and Steven Schwab were credited with assists on the goals for the Tritons (12-2-4), who travel to Venice on Monday.

Cape Coral 2, Lemon Bay 0: Cape Coral wrapped up its second consecutive unbeaten district campaign Friday night with a shutout win over Lemon Bay.

Miguel Martinez and Mateo Perez scored the Seahawks' goals with Eli Vega and Kevin Retana assisting. Keepers Austin Lachmann and Alex Colazzo combined for 10 saves.

The Seahawks (17-1, 7-0 district) play at Lakewood Ranch on Monday.

Ida Baker 2, Lehigh 2: Ida Baker had to settle for a tie with Lehigh Friday as Joey Minervini and Andrew Falk scored the Bulldogs' goals.

Keeper Trey Crispin made five saves and Brandon Taylor added an assist. The Bulldogs (5-8-5, 4-3 district) host Estero on Tuesday.

Boys Basketball

Island Coast 65, Moore Haven 51: Led by Morgan Foreman's 16 points and seven rebounds, the Island Coast Gators defeated Moore Haven Saturday in the Southwest Florida vs. Florida Challenge at Fort Myers High.

Sam Merchant contributed 14 points and seven rebounds while Sonel Mathurin grabbed 14 rebounds to go with six points and Preston Grimm handed out seven assists.

The Gators (8-10) host Venice in Tuesday.

Marco Island 60, Oasis 44: For the second game in a row, Oasis did not have a double-figure scorer in a loss at Marco Island Saturday.

Owen Roos led the Sharks with nine points and five rebounds. Brandon Watts added eight points with Nick Lyons collecting six points with seven assists and three rebounds. Brandon Wells grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.

The Sharks (2-12) play a district match at Bishop Verot on Tuesday.

Bishop Verot 68, Gulf Coast 34: Bishop Verot doubled-up Gulf Coast Friday night behind the 31-point, 10 rebound effort of senior Ricky Doyle.

Thaddeus Ward contributed 23 points for the Vikings (8-6), who play Sarasota Riverview Saturday at Fort Myers High.

Island Coast 70, Ida Baker 38: Three players scored in double figures Friday night to lead Island Coast to victory at Ida Baker.

Morgan Foreman led the Gators with 21 points while Preston Grimm added 12 points and seven assists. Sonel Mathurin contributed 10 points and 16 rebounds. Sam Merchant added eight points and five rebounds in his first varsity appearance.

Chris Snyder led the Bulldogs with 11 points with Kevin Acevedo adding 10.

The Gators (7-10, 3-2 district) play Moore Haven Saturday morning at Fort Myers High.

Golden Gate 73, Mariner 56: Golden Gate opened a big lead in the first quarter and coasted past Mariner Friday night.

Rodney Hunter hit a team-high 23 points for the Tritons with Kaleb Darrett adding 14.

"They are a good team, so they deserve credit," said Tritons coach James Harris. "They outplayed us in the first half. We just have to learn from this and go to practice and get ready for the next game."

The Tritons (12-4) play Tuesday at Immokalee.

Girls Basketball

Oasis 59, Marco Island 21: Samantha Wood and Jordan Westendorf scored in double figures Saturday as Oasis snapped its six-game losing streak with a win at Marco Island.

Wood topped the Sharks with 14 points with Westendorf adding 10. In all, 10 of the 12 Sharks players that saw action scored points.

"I'm happy to get back into the win column," said Sharks coach Sam Wood. "It was a total team effort."

The Sharks (9-8) host Bishop Verot on Tuesday.

North Fort Myers 45, Oasis 41: Oasis battled back from a 16-point first-half deficit to take the lead with three minutes left in the final period, but ran out of gas in a four-point loss Friday at North.

Jordan Westendorf led the Sharks with 18 points and 10 rebounds with Samantha Wood adding 17 points.

Cape Coral 54, Lely 13: Cape Coral crushed Lely Friday night as McKenna Beach hit for a game-high 17 points and teammate Crystal Townsend added 10 points to surpass 1,000 points in her career.

The Seahawks play at Cypress Lake on Tuesday.
