Tritons hold off Seahawks 53-43

Kaleb Darrett and Rodney Hunter led Mariner past Cape Coral 53-43 Thursday night.

"We cut their lead to six in the fourth quarter, but we couldn't make that final push," said Seahawks coach Tom Kenna.

Darrett had a game-high 19 points and Hunter 17 for the Tritons (12-2, 5-0 district), who travel to Golden Gate on Friday.

Joe Maseros and Marcus Blackwell led the Seahawks with 12 points apiece and C.J. Lewis added 10. Cape (8-7) travels to Lely on Friday.

"It was a rivalry game, so you throw out the records," said Tritons coach James Harris. "We fought through some adverse times and found a way to win."

Sarasota 69, Oasis 22: Oasis had little answer for Sarasota Thursday night in a lopsided loss on the Sharks' home floor.

Alex Welch led the Sharks with seven points and J.P. Schlueter added six. The Sharks (2-10) host North Fort Myers Friday

Boys Soccer

Bishop Verot 3, North Port 0: Peter Routsis collected two goals and Tyler Yergens added one to carry Bishop Verot to victory Thursday night over North Port.

Keeper Brandon Doyle made seven saves to lift the Vikings to 12-0-2 on the season. The Vikings host Estero on Monday.

Girls Basketball

Cape Coral 61, Mariner 30: Cape Coral overwhelmed city rival Mariner Thursday night.

Kiera Bateman led the Tritons with eight points while Mariah Ortiz and Katie Adams contributed six points apiece. The Tritons (6-14) host Golden Gate on Friday.
