To the editor:
I was reading my email this morning and noticed a letter to the editor titled "Give Radel a chance to serve," Cape Coral Breeze, Jan. 3, 2014, SWFL Young Republicans Board. Very interesting article, which was written by Jack Mattachione, MRC Master's of Rehab Counseling Former 5th Special Force Group, US Army Medically retired, Disabled Veteran.
As I indicated in several of my letters to the editor, I was not a medical professional and agreed with Congressman Radel's efforts to get the appropriate treatment for his illness. And yes, I wanted details, and as a constituent of Congressman Radel's I find it very appropriate as to what those details were and are because he is representing some of my interests in the United States Congress. I want to know "without a reasonable doubt" that our Congressman does not or had not acted in an inappropriate manner to bring suspicion upon his representation of the 19th Congressional District of Florida. And those details of past performance on his part would provide his seriousness, openness and behavior to rehabilitate his actions.
As for his come-clean news conference back in December 2013 - all I heard in Congressman Radel's remarks was obfuscation based on a previous issue and personal privacy issues.
As for his illness - he stated he had an alcoholic problem for which he was being treated. This didn't answer the question as to why he was arrested in the Nation's Capital for purchasing COCAINE!
Here is the bottom-line - when a leader compromises their position can they maintain their effectiveness? And can they recapture their reputation in a timely manner to achieve the goals of the people they are leading and representing? The results and answers to these two questions are 50-50 of being achieved for positive results for the leader. I know my answer - it is now each constituent's responsibility in the 19th Congressional District of Florida to determine their own answer.
And Mr. Mattachione, I want to thank you for your service to our country, "De oppresso liber."
