Take a stroll through St. James City history

January 10, 2014
By LYNN SARD - MOTI publicist , Cape Coral Daily Breeze

On Sunday, Jan. 19, at 2 p.m., Museum of the Islands historian Tim Knox will lead a group stroll with a visiting socialite who will share her impressions of early St. James City. A collaboration between MOTI and St. James City Civic Association, this program enables strollers to share in the dawn of this Pine Island community.

The stroll begins at the water's edge of Palm Avenue where the landmarks she might have seen will be described. Along Palm Avenue, sites that may have been observable to our socialite at that time will be pointed out.

The stroll portion of the program concludes at the site of the once grand San Carlos Hotel. What were the socialite's impressions of the hotel and its accommodations? Join the strollers and find out!

Returning to the SJCCA, participants will view a slide presentation showing St .James City in the late 1800s. This will be followed by a question and answer and light refreshments.

The cost is free but donation will be accepted.

Please park in the SJCCA parking lot and someone will be there to assist you. Golf carts will be available. Chairs will be placed along Palm Avenue for those who need to rest. If the weather is inclement, the program will be held inside SJCCA.

For additional information, please contact Knox at info@pineisland.info or MaryAnn at 283-9337.
