Tritons fall at Fort Myers 1-0

A scoreless game ended with an unlucky bounce for the Mariner Tritons Wednesday night resulting in a 1-0 loss at Fort Myers.

The lone goal, with eight minutes remaining, sent the Tritons to their second defeat of the season. The Tritons (11-2-4) play their final District 3A-13 game of the season on Friday at South Fort Myers.

"We had an opportunity to win the game early in the second half with a penalty kick, but we missed it," said Tritons coach Martin Cardenas. "We outshot them 12-3, but couldn't find the net tonight."

Cardenas credited Isiaias Velazquez, Austin Turner, Austin Hobson and Trevor Jurkowski with outstanding defensive play throughout the game.

Cape Coral 3, Riverdale 1: Cape kept surging through the District 3A-13 schedule Wednesday night with a victory at Riverdale to remain unbeaten in district.

Gianni Cognatta, Kevin Retana and Ryan Mollow tallied goals for the Seahawks with Camillo Avendano credited with two assists. Goalkeeper Austin Lachmann made seven saves to preserve the unbeaten streak.

The Seahawksw (16-1, 6-0 district) wrap up district play Friday night against Lemon Bay.

Girls Soccer

Ida Baker 6, Lemon Bay 1: Franny Farella knocked in three goals to lead unbeaten Ida Baker to victory over Lemon Bay on senior night at Bulldogs Field.

Marcella Montoya added two goals and Gabby Morales one goal for the Bulldogs. Goalkeeper Angela Christiano made one save to protect the victory.

The Bulldogs (19-0-2) finish off the regular season on Friday at Lehigh.

Boys Basketball

Port Charlotte 64, Island Coast 38: Port Charlotte made a run in the second quarter to break open a tight game and hand Island Coast a 26-point defeat Wednesday night.

Morgan Foreman led the Gators with 10 points with Sonelo Mathurin adding seven points, 11 rebounds and four steals.

The Gators (6-10, 2-2 district) are in action Friday at Ida Baker.
