To the editor:
On Saturday, Dec. 28, I announced that I was stepping down as the Secretary of the SWFL Young Republicans. This is not in any way due to any hostility or major disagreement with the SWFL Young Republicans, but due to a deepening rift between the GOP and myself. The history of both major parties shows a steady march by the Democrat party farther "left" seemingly by the day. In the same way the, through seemingly endless compromise of what they claim to be principals, the GOP fallows in lock step down the same liberty killing "left" path being sure to stay just far enough behind as to give the illusion of a conservative choice. Because of this constant march toward authoritarianism the choice between Republican and Democrat has become nothing more than entertainment for the masses by giving us the choice of which horse we would rather ride in our race to the bottom.
The two parties have become a means by which the political class can, through balkanization, (divide and conquer) remain in constant power. They have convinced the public that the choice is not between liberty and slavery, but instead between the "lesser of evils." We have devolved into a society that no longer debates the merits of true liberty, but now the speed at which we descend into neo-feudalism.
I have joined the Libertarian party, not to spite the GOP, but to withdraw consent from what has become a shadowed single party. This "super party" has waged almost constant illegal war sense the end of WWII. It has made criminals of those who would report its own criminal activity. It has plundered the wealth of hard-working people through inflation of the currency, market manipulation, exorbitant and unconstitutionally collected taxation and fraud. Both sides have, though executive fiat, worked to debase and overthrow the constitution of the United States and the liberties it recognizes. They have agreed to the destruction of habeas corpus by the passing, and this year upholding, of indefinite detention of American citizens contained in the NDAA. Because of this, we must declare the parties to be the usurpers they are, involved subversion against the constitution.
I am not saying that those who choose to try to change the GOP from within are without merit. I spent many years there with you. I would however openly invite anyone who can no longer stand and watch the "conservative" party draw good people into a state of hopeless submission to join me in a stand against the march I have described.
To those who would claim that I am "throwing away my voice and vote," I would encourage you to recognize your fear. This is not a fight that will be easily or quickly won. This will not be won by compromise which leads us farther down the path to authoritarianism, and this is not a fight for the weak minded. Thomas Pain said "I love the man that can smile in trouble, which can gather strength from distress, and grow brave by reflection.
"Tis the business of little minds to shrink, but he whose heart is firm, and whose conscience approves his conduct, will pursue his principles unto death."
Those with the strength of mind and conscience will continue to fight for those without it.
