The Island Coast Gators did exactly that Tuesday in the final round of the Lehigh Medical Holiday Madness Tournament at East Lee County, coasting to a 62-38 victory over Hardee County.

Nine of the Gators' 11 players scored points, led by Sonel Mathurin with 18 points and eight rebounds. Mathurin, selected to the all-tournament team, was backed by Morgan Foreman with 10 points and Preston Grimm with nine points and six assists.

"Against certain teams I'll play five in, five out like a line change in hockey," said Gators coach Greg Coleman. "When we play at team that's not very deep on the bench it wears them down. We forced them into 30 turnovers with our half-court trap defense."

The Gators led from start to finish, holding a 12-point advantage at halftime and 20 at the end of the third period.

The Gators (6-9) won two of their four games in the 16-team tournament and begin District 6A-11 play next Wednesday at home against Port Charlotte.
